The strength of this story is the characterization of Batgirl herself. Dressed in a Batman-inspired costume, she is unexpectedly thrust into the world of superheroes as Batgirl. Everything changes when she encounters Killer Moth from robbing a Masquerade Ball. due to not meeting the minimum height requirement, she finds herself running out of options. ![]() After being rejected by both the police and the F.B.I. Her father tries to deter her from entering. The plot sees a young Barbra Gordon fresh out of college looking to follow her father’s footsteps by joining the GCPD. By combining exciting superhero action and excellent character work, the creative team ends up putting together an origin that pays tribute to Batgirl’s past while redefining her for a new generation. The result is arguably the best story starring the long-running member of the bat-family. Following up on Robin: Year One, the creative team of Chuck Dixon, Scott Beatty and Marcos Martin reunited to give the updated origin to Batgirl. ![]()
